Francesca ter Poorten, MA, RCC

I am a long-time resident of the Elk Valley and have a private practice in Fernie as well as serving as a counsellor on-site at the mines and crisis/grief counselling.

I know how intimidating coming to therapy can be and will meet you where you are and create a safe space for you to unload your stresses, concerns and fears.  I work to put you at ease and allow you to relax into the experience of sharing your troubles and concerns.

I’ve been called “approachable and non-judgemental.” and I would say these are my greatest strengths. I help individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, major life changes and other concerns that are negatively impacting their quality of life.  I will always make time to listen to what is going on in your relationships whether that’s partners, family or work. Together you and I will figure out the issues that make you feel alone, disconnected, powerless or hopeless. Together we will discover what the right path forward is.

A little bit more about me personally: I have three adult children. I am an avid outdoor person. I love the mountains, whether it’s mountain biking, trail running, horse riding or skiing. I have two horses, three dogs, a cat and am a huge animal lover. I also teach skiing at the hill and love EDM festivals. I believe that we are never too old to start anything or to change.
